Dillon in Brighton

Dillon came to Brighton to play the Pavilion Theatre as part of a national tour of Decadence in 1984, and decided that working in Brighton and then going home to Manchester was doing things the wrong way round. After a second visit in 1985 (with Greek) George moved to Brighton in 1987, and is now firmly rooted in the town.

Before forming Vital Theatre, George directed Roy Smiles's Looking for Lucan at the Pavilion Theatre and Educating Rita at the Marlborough Theatre and played the lead role of Ralph 'the Charmer' Gorse in Alan Prior's adaptation of Patrick Hamilton's novel The West Pier for Pavilion Productions.

Dillon's solo shows have played at various venues in Brighton, including a 3 week run of Judgement upstairs in The Volunteer and a 4-week run of Stunning the Punters at the Nightingale Theatre as well as performances at the Pavilion Theatre and the Gardner Arts Centre.

At the Sallis Benney Theatre, George directed the World Premiere of Berkoff's Brighton Beach Scumbags set on 2 tons of shingle, the inaugural production for Brighton Theatre Events in 1991 and the following year he performed and directed Decadence set on a park bench.

In 1991 George also co-directed a open-air As You Like It for the Festival Shakespeare Company, and in 1995 his Hamlet played for two weeks at the Komedia before playing in Queen's Park and at Lewes Castle.

In the last two years he has appeared as Johnny Rotten (in Pistols for Hanover Productions in the 1998 Brighton Festival) and as Charlie Chaplin in The Secret Life of Charlie Chaplin for Fireraisers.
