Vital Theatre presents GEORGE DILLON in

Berkoff's
HELL
&
Dostoevsky's
THE DREAM OF A
RIDICULOUS MAN

Two journeys into other worlds... an emotional roller-coaster of despair and salvation... Steven Berkoff's ever-failing alter-ego Harry, having died of loneliness, renders his ultimate appeal for a little sympathy and company in Hell... Disturbed by memories of a moment's compassion a would-be suicide dreams of a Paradise which he humself destroys but awakens to a glorious vision of 'The Truth' in Dostoevsky's late masterpiece, The Dream of a Ridiculous Man, a feverish manifesto for a more caring world...

From 1990, when he was nominated for the Independent Theatre Award, to last year, when Graft won him a Herald 'Angel' and a nomination for The Stage's 'Best Actor' award, George Dillon has created six highly acclaimed solo shows. The two stories in this bill are from Stunning the Punters (1990) and Hell & Other Tales (1992) and present Dillon at his best - passionate, stylised and utterly compelling.

REVIEWS OF HELL

Combining the precision and timing of the practised story-teller with the physical expressiveness of the accomplished actor,  Dillon brings measured delivery, carefully stylised visual imagery and the degree of physical and emotional vulnerability needed to translate powerful prose into disturbing, dangerous theatre.
THE GUARDIAN (of Hell)

One cannot be unaffected by Dillon's virtuoso performance in this world premiere.  It is a tour de force in which the actor and his material become one and the fusion of life and theatre is complete.
THE SCOTSMAN (of Hell)

Dillon's forte is a vulnerability we have not seen or suspected in his author. He manages to summon up something as improbable as, let's say, the Beckett in Berkoff."
THE TIMES

REVIEWS OF THE DREAM OF A RIDICULOUS MAN

George Dillon is one of the most uncompromisingly compelling performers I have seen. I am applauding an unapologetic display of virtuosity until the blood runs. he has the vocal precision of a Gielgud, the physical presence and skill of Marceau, and a heart, mind, and attack that are all his own.
THE GUARDIAN

Nowhere in the world will you hear a sharper sermon about human frailty this Sabbath... Dillon commands dramatic effects as if he were Marcel Marceau wired into a Wurlitzer. This is the craft of acting carried to a pinnacle of virtuosity.
SCOTLAND ON SUNDAY

My spirits are restored by George Dillon's display of theatrical technique, timing and diction of flawless precision... His Dream of a Ridiculous Man is my Fringe discovery.
THE SUNDAY TIMES

This is one-man theatre at its most intelligent and most powerful. Don't wait to be told about it, or to read another critical paean - go and see for yourself."
